Today is World Photography Day — a day to appreciate “the art of capturing moments.” For me, photography was the gateway to appreciating the moments themselves.
It’s never been easier to record a moment. A quick tap on our phone and the moment is documented and sorted by time and place (and sometimes subject).
But to create a souvenir, you have to expend more effort. It requires paying attention, thinking about what matters, and concentrating on the key elements that truly express the moment.
Whether or not I’m carrying a camera, 25 years of photography has made me more observant and expressive. There’s a lot to appreciate, even when it’s just passing outside your window.
