It's World Water Day 2023

Rainstorm Over The Savanna, Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

It’s World Water Day, a day to reflect on the importance of water and think about how we can help address challenges.

Water is a key element in much of my work. I made my first trip to Africa last year in part to see how water affects life. In the Maasai Mara of Kenya, years of drought has diminished the annual migration of millions of animals. While there, I did get to see a few rainstorms. And this one I could see coming for miles.

More than a quarter of the world’s population does not have reliable access to safe water. There may not be much that any of us individually can do about that, but we can still help improve water quality where we live by taking shorter showers, not sending food waste and chemicals down the drain, and buying local when it makes sense for the environment.
